Early Elementary ages 6-8
The Early Elementary Social Skills Group is for children ages 6-8 years old.
We use Michelle Garcia We Thinkers! Volume 2 to teach social skills in a more structured setting than our beginner group. This engaging new Social Thinking educational series combines a social learning framework used in schools across the U.S. with music and dramatic play activities that will appeal to early learners. We focus on:
- Hidden rules
- Flexible and stuck thinking
- Expected and Unexpected behaviors
- Size of the Problem
We also use TheZones of Regulation, a systematic cognitive behavioral approach used to teach self-regulation by categorizing the different ways we feel and states of alertness into four concrete zones. The Early Elementary group focuses on:
- Identifying emotions, states of alertness, and zones for ourselves
- Beginning to identify emotions, states of alertness, and zones for others
- Introduction to triggers
