CORT is our name. An experimental project from a multidisciplinary team collaborating to support families through outreach is our game.
Usually, taking something to court is a bad thing. But taking something to CORT at ICAN will be a helpful and positive thing. CORT stands for Collaboration and OutReach Team, and it's an experiment for us at ICAN. We are a multidisciplinary team of providers who want to share some of our thoughts, and we believe in the value of collaborating for the best outcomes. Our initial goal is to share and create materials to support families and providers, which is where the outreach comes in.
As providers, we find information and share materials that are helpful for our kiddos every day. We share with some of our families and, when we have time, we share it with our teams by sending the link or sharing the file. Having a conversation about what it is and how we could use it takes time, which is an opportunity that we don’t often have. When we have the chance to meet, we love to nerd out and get excited about ideas. We will be sharing thoughts and ideas through blog posts and supports like social stories. We hope that it opens up conversations for families and providers.
So why are you reading about it right now? Two things. First, we will start sharing resources and information. More importantly, you are part of this process. We would love to get your input and thoughts. Parenting a child with special needs is hard, and there is a LOT of information out there. We are here to help!
Because CORT is an experiment, we don't know how it might grow and change as a project. It might even get a new name! We are passionate at ICAN about supporting our families and providers, and this is part of our continuing journey to give more support for our hope and future.
