Intensive Day Program
ICAN’s Intensive Day Program (“preschool”) is designed specifically for individuals with autism and/or other neurodevelopment disorders or delays and utilizes empirically supported intervention techniques to ensure the best hope and future for children and families. The strategies used are based on principals of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Our program includes individualized support and program management from our BCBAs and consultation from our Occupational and Speech Therapists. In addition to individualized programming and oversight, our program utilizes an evidence-based curriculum (Language for Learning) to target early literacy with all our learners. We have morning and afternoon programs.
ABA is the process of systematically applying interventions based upon the principles of behavior to improve socially significant behaviors to a meaningful degree. There are a number of behavioral interventions used in teaching children with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders, including (but not limited to) Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) and Discrete Trial Training (DTT).
Pivotal Response Treatment:
A method of teaching which aims to provide opportunities for learning within the context of children’s natural environment and targets pivotal behaviors that lead to collateral changes in untargeted areas of functioning and responding.
Discrete Trial Training:
A method of teaching used in ABA where skills are broken down into component parts and taught using specific antecedents, prompting procedures and consequences to maximize successes and minimize failures.
At ICAN’s Intensive Day Program, we prioritize the difference we make not only with your child, but also the impact we can have on your family as a whole. We know that the best way of ensuring progress is through collaboration between ICAN staff and parents and caregivers. Parent education is an important component of the Intensive Day Program. Through regular meetings with your child’s BCBA, you will remain up-to-date on the progress he or she is making while becoming fluent in the ABA-based strategies your child’s team is using at ICAN. We believe our clients can accomplish great things when they have a strong team behind them. We love being that team!
