Applied Behavior Analysis

ABA THERAPY

Through decades of research, the field of behavior analysis has developed teaching techniques that are proven to increase meaningful behaviors and decrease those that interfere with learning. Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) takes these tools, or interventions and applies them to improve socially significant behaviors; this in turn improves their capacity to interact meaningfully in the world around them. There are a number of behavior-based and empirically supported treatments used in treating individuals with autism and neurodevelopmental disorders including: Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) and Discrete Trial Training (DTT).

Applied Behavior Analysis

Systematic application of interventions to increase socially significant behaviors and reduce barrier behaviors that impede an individuals ability to learn.

Pivotal Response Treatment

A method of treatment that aims to provide opportunities for learning within the context of the child’s natural environment and targets pivotal behaviors that lead to collateral areas of improvement. The outcome is overall improvement in the child’s capabilities.

Discrete Trial Training

A method of treatment in ABA where skills are broken down into component parts and taught using specific antecedents, prompting procedures and consequences to maximize successes and minimize failures.

ICAN’s (formerly Lakeside) ABA clinical team is composed of Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA), Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT). While staying firmly founded in the principles of ABA, the team collaborates with multiple disciplines including speech and occupational therapists. We believe our patients can make significant progress with a strong team behind them. We love being that team!
